Ariane 5. El lanzamiento se produjo sin retrasos a la hora prevista, las 22:38 horas Peninsulares. Pues bien: ayer por la noche se lanzó con éxito el cohete Ariane 5 con los satélites Astra 3B y Comsat Bw2, que en estos momentos ya se encuentran en órbita. El despegue que muy probablemente sea el último del Atlantis sucedió sin problemas algunos  y se realizó correctamente. espaciales y ya ha puesto en marcha el proyecto UK Space Agency, para formar una agencia espacial propia que actúe libremente. La agencia espacial buscará gestionar todos los programas espaciales civiles que sen lleven a cabo en el Reino Unido. Hay opiniones de todo tipo, hay que creen que este es un paso más para la innovación y promoción del sector espacial en el Reino Unido y que supondrá un antes y un después en esta materia dentro del país. Pero otras, ya más críticas con el tema, expresan su descontento con la formación de agencias espaciales para cada país, y que creen que la ESA saldrá muy mal parada de lo que llaman "una separación y monopolización del sector espacial". La ESA desmiente esas opiniones con estos comentarios: "Nosotros en la ESA vemos esto como una clara señal de que el Reino Unido quiere reforzar su sector espacial y su compromiso con nosotros. Esto es bueno para la economía del Reino Unido, bueno para la ESA y bueno para Europa. Estamos deseando trabajar estrechamente con la nueva agencia espacial que tiene el privilegio de estar construyendo el acertado trabajo del Centro Nacional Británico durante las últimas décadas." Ayer estuvieron realizando un crucial ensayo general de lanzamiento, para aprender y revisar todos y cada uno de los procedimientos que se deben seguir paso a paso en el lanzamiento de una lanzadera espacial para que todo surja correctamente así como las comprobaciones de seguridad. Luego, estuvieron probando y revisando el funcionamiento del sistema de evacuación rápida de la plataforma de lanzamiento, que permite, en caso de fuego o alguna otra catástrofe, salir rápidamente de la plataforma. Ese sistema se compone de siete terminales con una especie de "cestas" cogidas con una polea a un cable. En este artículo vamos a repasar un poco la historia de este gran telescopio espacial, que ha conseguido grandes avances en el campo de la astronomía. Construido entre la NASA y la ESA y con distintos instrumentos, fue lanzado el 24 de Abril de 1990 al espacio, en una altitud orbital de 600 km. Pero cuando se lanzó, no fue todo como se esperaba. Se detectó una aberración esférica en el espejo primario que hacía que las imágenes se vieran con mala calidad. Después de tres años, se lanzó la SM1 o misión de servicio 1 en la que los tripulantes del transbordador Endeavour en el marco de la misión STS-61. Después de esta misión, bastante difícil, el Hubble comenzó a enviar imágenes de muy buena calidad a la Tierra y demostró la eficacia de los telescopios espaciales frente a los grandes telescopios que hay en la Tierra, ya que la atmósfera terrestre impide una visualización amplia del espacio exterior. El robot, realizado entre General Motors y la NASA está pasando sus entrenamientos y ajustes previos al lanzamiento. Debido a la incapacidad del robot de moverse en gravedad cero, cuando llegue a la ISS, estará un tiempo sujeto dentro del módulo americano Destinity preparándose para salir al exterior haciendo pruebas de microgravedad y radiación. Si esas pruebas salen bien, el software del robot se actualizará para que pueda salir de ese módulo. Al parecer esa pieza, construida por una empresa italiana llamada Microtecnica ya había dado problemas en lanzamientos anteriores, y al final se optó por reenviarla a la fábrica para que la volvieran a enviar arreglada y revisada. Pues bien, al parecer, por culpa de las cancelaciones de los vuelos aéreos provocadas por las nubes de ceniza que ha provocado la erupción del volcán islandés Eyjafjöll va a retrasar aún más el envío de la válvula. Por lo que parece, si la pieza no llega a tiempo, la cobertura de el mundial de fútbol de Sudáfrica puede correr peligro: el satélite Astra debe servir para las retransmisiones futbolísticas y no es un satélite operativo justo después del lanzamiento.
